Writing

My degree is in journalism, and my dream was to work for a magazine someday. I actually did get a chance to work as a freelancer for a few different publications, and I even wrote a book.

Then a funny thing happened. I got hired as a researcher for the Education Commission of the States.

I found out I love working for nonprofits. I love being around people who are dedicated to finding out the truth and helping to promote it.

For ten years now, I've worked with researchers and policy analysts studying how policy creates change in education and health care. I know how to communicate complex issues to legislators and community leaders.

I fell into nonprofit work accidentally, but it's given me a breadth of experience I couldn't get anywhere else. Now I get to write content, design it, publish it and promote it. I wouldn't change a thing.
